Republic of Colombia
Capital: Bogota
The Official Language: Spanish
President: Alvo Urive Velez
Population: 44,085,853

The 26th largest nation in the world, Colombia is a lush land in the northern part of South America. It has, however, been plagued with conflict between government forces and anti-government, insurgent, and paramilitary groups since the 1960's. Violence and conflict dramatically increased in the 1990's but has been steadily declining since 2002. A vast portion of the countryside is still, however, under militant control. Most of these para-military and insurgent groups are funded by the cocaine export they produce.

The Needs of Colombia:

  • 2nd highest homicide rate and 3rd highest murder rate in the world

  • Largest producer of Cocaine in the world

  • Most kidnappings worldwide (5,181 between 1992 and 1999)

  • Almost half of their population does not receive a secondary education

  • 27% of children no longer attend school by 5th grade

  • 11.1% unemployment rate

  • Ranked 13th as highest number of known terrorist organizations

CIN's Mission in Colombia:

CIN has established a relationship with a church in Bogota, Colombia. CIN will be partnering with this church to provide a home to widows of martyred Christian pastors. The women and their children will live in the home for a one year period. During the families time at the Colombia Life Center, the mother will receive job training allowing her to provide for your family. The children will be enrolled in school. The family will receive counseling and the support of the partner church congregation.

CIN is honored to be joining this ministry in Colombia. The relationship was developed during a series of three seminars CIN hosted in three cities surrounding the Red Zone. These seminars allowed pastors from the area an opportunity to attend and receive training and materials to help reach the children in their communities.

Currently an estimated 2,000 children are already receiving the benefits of supplies CIN has provided to the local churches through Project IMPACT. CIN also partnered with a local church to create the Colombia Life Center safe house for orphans and widows of martyred Christan pastors.
